Northern New England Passenger Rail Authority

NNEPRA was created in 1995 by the Maine State Legislature to create and manage passenger rail service between Maine and Boston, MA.  It manages the Downeaster passenger service as part of an agreement with Amtrak, which is responsible for operating the trains themselves.  With ridership increasing every year for the last seven years and service expanding to Freeport and Brunswick this year, the Downeaster is a bustling example of a successful American rail line.
